Cotehele's 60th anniversary Christmas garland

12th November, 2016 - 31st December, 2016

Saturday 12 November - Saturday 31 December (except 25-26 December), 11am-4pm.
Performances daily 2-2.30pm and 3-3.30pm

The garland is complete, the log fire is burning - join us to admire this 60th anniversary masterpiece and enjoy music by a variety of local choirs and groups performing under it.

When the residents of Cotehele first hung a modest, floral, Christmas display in the Tudor Hall six decades ago, little did they know how their simple decoration would turn into the magnificent garland it is today.

This year we’re very excited to celebrate the 60th anniversary of this 60ft tradition. To make it an extra special celebration, the gardeners grew flowers specifically to give it a 'diamond' anniversary look.

There are 31,200 flowers in the garland and a further 7,920 in the swag around the door. The garland weighs 120 Kg.
Pricing:

From 31 October - 31 December admission is £6 (National Trust Members and under 18s free).

Crafts for Christmas at the Shire Hall, Bodmin

14th November, 2016 - 22nd December, 2016

Before you know it, Christmas will be here; and it will certainly arrive at Bodmin’s Shire Hall Gallery from Monday 14th November, as its annual Christmas exhibition opens to the public.
This year, the gallery welcomes eleven; Cornwall based artists, the work of whom will be beautifully displayed, in what was the former public gallery - a reminder of the Shire Hall’s days as a working courtroom.
There is something for everyone to include colourful ceramic jewellery, buttons and cute hanging decorations, handmade Christmas fabric gifts as well as scented candles and fun Christmas bunting by Karen Davies from Wadebridge. Furthermore, you will be able to buy driftwood giftware and jewellery from Yemaya Crafts as well as lovely cards and framed images by Helen Hoyle. And as if that wasn’t enough, Roger Jardine will have a display of his original watercolours and there will be a range of cards and photographic prints by John Worth.
Also, you will find glass Christmas decorations, beaded handmade jewellery together with Sujati Designs clothes and accessories.
As well as being a truly Cornish show, everything on display is both affordable and perfect for a special Christmas gift.
The exhibition runs from Monday 14th November through until Thursday 22nd December and is open Monday to Friday from 8.45am – 2pm. Admission to the exhibition is free of charge.
If you would like any further information then please don’t hesitate to contact the Shire Hall Gallery on 01208 76616 or email wendy.wright@bodmin.gov.uk

Saturday 18 February - Sunday 19 February, 11am-4pm

We'll show you how to graft your own apple tree that you'll be able to take away to plant in your garden back home. The tree varieties available on the day are specific to the Tamar Valley, most of which will never be commercially viable so this is a rare opportunity to have these uncommon varieties in your own garden, and you'll be helping to keep the gene pool alive and conserving the varieties for generations to come. Limit of two trees per workshop. There will be at least 20 different varieties to choose from including Hocking's Green, Cornish Mother and King Byerd. The apples are a range of cooking apples, eating apples delicious straight from the tree or cider apples. Rootstock types are M9 (Dwarf), MM106 (Medium), M25 (large and vigorous). You'll be able to take away a grafted tree for only a fiver.

Meet in the education room. No need to book, it's a rolling programme of workshops.

Assistance dogs are welcome.
